The race for Congress party president is on full swing as Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and MP Shashi Tharoor officially confirmed they will run for Congress party president post with the blessings of Sonia Gandhi.
While speaking about his nomination for party president post, Rajasthan CM Gehlot said that he requested Rahul Gandhi multiple times to accept everyone’s proposal of becoming the Congress Chief. “But, he made it clear that nobody from the Gandhi family should become the next chief. He clearly is aware that a lot of party people want him to be president. With all respects to their opinion, he has decided that next chief would not be a Gandhi”, added Gehlot.
Ashok Gehlot is the front runner to emerge as the party president and political rumours are rife that he would comfortably win the election. Besides Gehlot and Tharoor, other big names for party chief post include Digvijay Singh and Kamalnath. Nominations for this Election will begin from tomorrow, while their nomination papers will be scrutinized on 1st October.
The polling will take place on 17th October and counting is scheduled to happen on 19th Oct.
