The excitement on Congress presidential poll continued to double on Wednesday with the interesting news that former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh had arrived in the capital yesterday night amid a buzz that Digvijay would file his papers for the top post.
The process of these nominations is said to wrap up by September 30, with only Shashi Tharoor in the race so far. However, it is heard that Tharoor will file his papers on September 30.
Meanwhile, Singh’s presence in this nomination race is likely to give Sonia Gandhi a handle over Gehlot who arrived in Delhi yesterday and is expected to meet Sonia amid indications that she still wants him to run for Congress presidency, something he does not appear keen on.
Digvijay is currently busy with Bharat Jodo Yatra and a week back he said that he was not ruling himself out of the party chief’s post but later publicly stated that he was not interested.
Inside Sources said that Digvijay Singh could have been signaled by party president Sonia Gandhi to file his nominations to avoid the current embarrassment where no official face has emerged even with just two more days left to file the papers.
However, the rest will depend on whether Sonia Gandhi can convince Gehlot to handle the AICC chief’s post and let the CM issue be decided by her.
