The IBC News Rating

Actor Ayushmann Khurrana is back with another social comedy, Doctor G. In this film, he plays the role of a male gynecologist. Directed by Anubhuti Kashyap, this film features Rakul Preet Singh as the female lead. It got released today, and let’s see how it is.

Story:

Uday (Ayushmann Khurrana) is a medical student who studies in Bhopal. He wants to specialize in osteopathy but is forced to opt for gynecology. Coming from a typical patriarchal mindset, Uday thinks that gynecology is only for females. He is surrounded by girls in his class too. How he overcomes his aversion to the subject and how he transforms himself as a gynecologist forms the main crux of the film.

What’s Entertaining & What’s Boring:

We expect relatable characters and enjoyable comedy scenes from Ayushmann Khurrana’s films. Even in Doctor G, we get that kind of character and such comedy scenes. These funny scenes are quite entertaining.

Though the film is a social comedy, most of the scenes feel repetitive. We feel that we have seen such scenes in Ayushmann’s earlier flicks. The first half is filled with such stereotypical scenes. They are quite boring.

Doctor G Movie Review

Performance of Cast & Crew:

Ayushmann has been playing these kinds of roles since his debut as an actor. So, it is an easy task for him. He impresses with his performance but audiences started getting bored watching him in the same kinds of roles all the time. Rakul Preet Singh is good in her limited role. Shefali Shah is brilliant and we wish the makers gave her a more meaty role. Sheeba Chaddha is relatable as the hero’s mother.

The songs and background scores of Doctor G are very normal and nothing great. The cinematography is good though. The essence of Bhopal has been shown. The editing is apt for the story. The production values are great. Director Anubhuti Kashyap shines only in parts but not on the whole.

First Half & Second Half:

The first half explores the protagonist’s journey in college and his aversion towards gynaecology. How he accepts his subject and starts loving it sums up the entire first half. It is very cliched and flat. Thus, it turns out to be pretty boring.

But the second half is interesting compared to the first half. Even the climax is not very preachy and was subtle enough.

Impressive:

Ayushmann Khurrana’s performance
Shefali Shah’s performance
Second Half

Unimpressive:

First Half
Flat Narration
Nothing special in execution

THE IBC NEWS take on Movie:

On the whole, Doctor G is a typical Ayushmann Khurrana film. It has a social issue, it has comedy and it has a message in the climax. If you like his movies, you can watch it. If you got bored with his movies, you can skip it.

One-Line Review:

Doctor-G is partly entertaining!
