Shivakarthikeyan’s Telugu debut Prince has hit the screens today. Directed by Jathiratnalu director Anudeep KV, the film’s trailer promised an entertaining film on the way. Let’s see whether the film reached expectations or not..

Story:

The story of Prince is about a school teacher Anbu (Siva Karthikeyan) who lives with his father Ulaganathan (Sathyaraj). Jessica (Maria) from Cambridge joins in the same school of Anbu and he falls in love with her. But Ulaganathan who supports intercaste marriage hates british as his ancestors were made slaves by them. Similarly, Jessica’s father hates Anbu as he is an Indian. How Anbu won the heart of Jessica and also his father forms the crux.

What’s Entertaining & What’s Boring:

Major asset of the film is its humorous content. Anudeep, same as his previous film, picks a very predictable plot but gives it a fresh and entertaining spin, and that’s where the movie succeeds. Despite weaving a storyline with serious backdrop, the director has ensured that there is ample dose of entertainment in the film. Same as Jathiratnalu, Prince is also a film in which fun and comedy works big time. The entertainment, whether it is silly or excellent, doesn’t matter, the film gives us plenty of interesting laugh-out-loud moments. The movie slackens whenever the seriousness takes center stage as the emotions are predictable. In the second half, there is a sense of repetitiveness, and things drag as we get towards the end. The comedy quotient goes down in this half and the scenes look rushed and the climax is wrapped up in a hurry.

Performance of Cast & Crew:

Shivakarthikeyan did complete justice to his character. He shines effortlessly in all the scenes with his sensible comedy timing and good energy levels. Maria Ryaboshapka lent good support to the hero with her performance. She is bubbly and shows good promise as an actress. Satyaraj is another big asset for this film. He played his role very well and succeeded in tickling the bones with his funny antics. Anudeep’s humorous dialogues are appealing. Music and background score given are adequate. The production values good.

First Half & Second Half:

The first half of the film proceeds at a leisure pace with a decent comedy track in the school scenes. Scenes with Shivakarthikeyan and heroine have come out well. However, the pace of the film slightly slows down in the second half as the scene shifts from a love backdrop to the village conflict. This is when the film loses its steam and treads a familiar path.

The IBC News take:

Prince sets out to offer a fun experience. The director brings in situations with good writing, infuses nice comedy scenes and adds routine-but-funny episodes. On the whole, Prince is a fairly time pass movie if you excuse the predictability in the later portions.
