Taskin Ahmed’s fantastic spell (4-0-25-4) helped Bangladesh in winning its first Super 12 match against the Netherlands this morning. In this low-scoring game, Bangladesh scored 144/8 and Netherlands almost reached the winning shored but fell short by nine runs.
While batting first, Bangladesh got a good start from its openers Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Hossain Shanto. They made a partnership of 43 runs for the first wicket. But when the first wicket has fallen, it lost momentum and four more wickets fell apart in no time. Very soon, the score became 76/5. That’s when Nurul Hasan (13) and Afif Hossain (38) made a partnership of 44 runs and settled the innings. Mosaddek Hossain’s quick cameo (20* off 12 balls), in the end, helped Bangladesh in scoring 144/8 in 20 overs.
The Netherlands had a disastrous start during the chase. It lost four wickets inside the powerplay. The score was 15/4 in 3.4 overs. That’s when Colin Ackermann (62) and Scott Edwards (16) made a partnership of 44 runs and brought back the Netherlands into the chase. But Taskin and Hasan Mahmud’s stunning spells restricted the opponents from going big. In the end, Paul van Meekeren (24 off 14 balls) made an impressive cameo but couldn’t help his team in winning the game. By the end of 20 overs, Netherlands got all out for 135.
The Netherlands will play its next game against India on October 27. Bangladesh will play against South Africa on the very same day.
