In agreement with most of the exit polls that predicted a victory for the BJP, the Bharatiya Janata Party is about to win the Gujarat Assembly Elections with a thumping majority. The elections were conducted from the 1st of December to the 5th of December, 2022 for a total of 182 assembly seats out of which, BJP is leading with a pompous majority of 150 seats.
This breaks BJP’s previous record of 127 seats in the 2002 elections when PM Modi stood as the Chief Ministerial candidate for BJP. The Modi Mania which took the nation by storm in the 2014 and 2019 elections is still in vogue in Gujarat. Although BJP won 99 seats in the previous 2017 elections, it bounced back with a great deal, leading in more than 50 seats from the previous election.
Other parties haven’t done quite well. The Indian National Congress(INC) which won 77 seats in the previous elections have come down to just 22 now. The Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) which didn’t win any seats in the previous 2017 elections, is looking forward to winning at least 5 seats this year. This is a significant development from its previous endeavour in BJP’s forte. The BJP, with a vote share of 53% currently, has certainly proven its power in its strong land and will form the government in Gujarat 2023.
