Covid Crisis: India’s cumulative number of cases crosses 4.46 crores

India wide Covid surge is already creating a tense situation. India has recorded 163 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours. According to the Union Health Ministry data, the cumulative coronavirus tally has gone up to 4.46 crore (4,46,79,924). Not just in the country, but the Telangana state also registered new cases.

Telangana State recorded 163 new COVID cases on Saturday, taking the total number of cases to 8,41,564, while the death toll is at 4,111. Around 8,37,228 patients recovered from the infection with 9 new recoveries on Friday. The infection rate is at 0.49%, while the recovery rate is at 99.5% and 62 active cases across the state.

With a sudden surge in vaccine shots in the last ten days, Telangana’s vaccination stock has dropped from 8.8 Lakh to 3.6 Lakh, which is over 60%. Out of them, 60,302 are COVISHIELD while the rest are COVAXIN. There haven’t been any fresh supplies from the Center despite the urging of Telangana Health Minister T. Harish Rao’s demand of 25 Lakh doses on 23 December. Around 14 Lakh doses were administered by the government and around 1.2 Lakh doses are being registered every day.

On the national front, India recorded fresh cases, while the number of active cases rose to 2,509. With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases has climbed to 4,46,79,761 and the death toll to 5,30,718. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.11% according to the data on the Union Health Ministry website.
