2007 blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa got a sequel after a gap of 15 years. This time, the entire cast and crew are changed. While Anees Bazmee has helmed the film, Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, and Tabu played the lead roles in it.
Plot:
Ruhaan Randhawa (Kartik Aaryan) meets Reet Thakur (Kiara Advani) while he was on a vacation to Himachal Pradesh. Both of them become good friends during the trip. Eventually, Ruhaan accompanied Reet to her hometown under unavoidable circumstances. They start living together in an abandoned Haweli, in which Manjulika (Tabu) passes away 18 years ago. How things unfold after they enter that abandoned Haweli forms the main crux of the story.
What’s Entertaining & What’s Boring:
Bhool Bhulaiyaa was a horror comedy and it worked very well with the audiences. The sequel also follows the same path and succeeds as well. Right from the beginning to the end, the viewers are entertained with slap-stick comedy.
There are horror elements in the film but they are very amateurish. Instead of feeling scared after watching those scenes, people will get bored. Even the climax twist can be predicted very early and thus, it doesn’t make any real impact.
Performance of Cast & Crew:
Kartik Aaryan is very good in his role. His antics as a Baba are hilarious. In most of the scenes, we can see him replicating the style of Akshay Kumar. After this film, we can say he can be the new-age Akshay Kumar for Bollywood audiences. Kiara Advani’s role doesn’t have much importance but she was decent. Tabu is the show-stealer of this film. She literally nailed her role. Once again, this film proves why Tabu is called one of the best actresses in this country.
Director Anees Bazmee is known for making comedy films. He is in his comfort zone once again and this time, everything worked out for him well. The music was below-par. The remix of the original Bhool Bhulaiyaa song was not effective. The cinematography and production values are great though. The editing is apt.
First Half & Second Half:
The first half is quite lengthy and takes time to get into the story. There are quite a few comedy scenes in this half but they get repetitive at one point. The interval bang is predictable as well.
Things take a turn in the second half. It is pacy and entertaining from start to the end. Once the twists are revealed, things become predictable but the proceedings manage to engage the audience. It is comparatively better than the first half.
Impressive:
Tabu
Comedy scenes
Production Values
Unimpressive:
Age-old narrative
Lack of horror elements
Poor VFX
‘The IBC News’ take on RRR:
Bhool Bhulaiyaa offers nothing new but it is an entertaining horror-comedy for sure. Bollywood audiences need this kind of masala film and they will be satisfied for sure. Though it is lame and dumb, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 has a high chance of clicking at the box office.
One-Line Review:
No Logic but works well for sure
