The new Marvel film, Thor: Love and Thunder, starring Chris Hemsworth in the titular role, had an early release in India today.
Plot:
Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is in a mid-life crisis after losing all his loved ones. At one point, he is forced to wage a war with the Gods against a God butcher named Gorr (Christian Bale) to save a few kids. In the process, there is also a love track between Thor and Dr Jane Foster aka The Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman). How Thor manages to defeat Gorr forms the main crux of the film.
What’s Entertaining & What’s Boring:
The combo of Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi is back after Thor: Ragnarok. Audiences would expect a laugh-riot from Waititi and he definitely delivered some genuinely funny moments in the film. His references to pop culture, music and fashion are entertaining as well. Russel Crowe’s performance as Zeus is hilarious too.
Meanwhile, Love and Thunder is not as entertaining as Ragnarok. Most of the funny scenes in this film also don’t feature Thor himself. The story is predictable right from the beginning to the end and at one point, you just get bored and wait for the climax.
Performance of Cast & Crew
Chris Hemsworth is stunning as usual as Thor and his antics are hilarious in some scenes. No one can pull off this character with such ease. Natalie Portman adds glamour as Mighty Thor. She is impressive and got a few serious scenes in the film. Christian Bale is a show-stealer in the role of Gorr. Russel Crowe is funny as Zeus.
Taika Waititi’s style can be seen throughout the film but he went a bit off-the-track with this film when we compare it to Ragnarok. The cinematography is phenomenal and so is the VFX work. The action sequences are brilliantly choreographed and some of them can be considered among the best action scenes in MCU.
First Half & Second Half:
The first half of Love and Thunder is filled with funny and goofy moments throughout. Marvel fans will definitely enjoy watching the Thor universe and its characters all over once again on the big screen.
Compared to the first half, the second half falls a bit flat. Things become predictable and boring after a point. The climax is good again. The mid and end credit scenes will satisfy the MCU fans for sure.
Impressive:
Lead actors performances
VFX works
Some funny scenes
Action sequences
Unimpressive:
No effective plot
Predictable screenplay
‘The IBC News’ take on Thor:
Thor: Love and Thunder follows the typical template of any MCU film and it delivers in most of the parts. But if you compare it to its previous part, Ragnarok, you may get disappointed for sure. On the whole, Love and Thunder is entertaining in parts but becomes predictable most of the time.
One-Line Review:
Love and Thunder has few laughs and few thunders
