Already, India officially qualified for the semifinals this morning when South Africa lost to the Netherlands. Now, by winning against Zimbabwe by 71 runs, India finished at the top of the table in Group 2. It was Surya Kumar Yadav who has been the star of the game once again.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma departed for a low score once again in the tournament. Then, in-form Virat Kohli (26) and KL Rahul (51) made a partnership of 60 runs for the second wicket. Rahul scored his second consecutive fifty in the tournament. Once Kohli got out, Rahul and Rishab Pant went back to the pavilion in no time. When India was in trouble, Surya (61* off 25 balls) came to the rescue and played a blistering knock. With his help, India managed to score 79 runs in the last five overs. Eventually, it ended the innings at a score of 186/5.
Zimbabwe got into trouble right away in the chase as Bhuvneshwar Kumar took the wicket of Wesley Madhevere on the first ball of the innings. After that, wickets started falling at quick successions. The score was 36/5 at one point. Sikandar Raza (34) and Ryan Burl (35) gave some life to their chase by making a partnership of 60 runs. But once they got out, it was just a cakewalk for India. Finally, Zimbabwe got all out for 115. Ravichandran Ashwin (3/22) scalped three wickets. Mohammed Shami (2/14) and Hardik Pandya (2/16) got two wickets each.
