The IBC News Rating

After Varun’s Doctor, director Nelson Dilip Kumar hiked expectations and curiosity around his work big time. By joining hands with Thalapathy Vijay, he turned everyone’s attention to him. With Beast, he has come to the limelight again, in a grand manner. Beast was released in Telugu and Tamil on April 13th, 2022. The film’s review is here.

Plot:

Veera Raghavan (Thalapathy Vijay) is a former raw agent who is assigned the responsibility to deal with an International Terrorist organization who have hijacked a mall demanding the release of its leader. Can Veera rescue all the hostages in time? is all the film is about.

What’s Entertaining & What’s Boring:

Thalapathy Vijay’s screen presence is a big-time entertainment in the film. Vijay carried the film on his shoulders and the poor writing and execution could not help him score the brownie points. The film looks stylish and it is a treat to watch. The situational comedy works big time but unfortunately, Nelson’s mark is visibly missing. What drives the audience to boredom is the lack of emotion in the film. The film is made up to look things silly and the purpose has died there itself. The treatment looks routine and reminds us of many Hindi films.

Performance of Cast & Crew:

Vijay is at his usual best and carried the film on his shoulders with his performance. Pooja Hegde is only a glamor addition to the film and she does her job nicely. Yogi Babu’s comedy worked out big time and he supported Vijay well in the film. The surprise package is Selva Raghavan who delivers an unusual performance that is not just entertaining but also effective. Technically, the crew did a fine job in the film. The camera work is grand. The music by Anirudh is up to the expectations and so is the score. The editing is decent. The production values are grand.

First Half & Second Half:

The first half is started effectively and the plot of the hostage drama has been established nicely. The first half is a right mix of multiple elements including comedy and action. But, the second half which is supposed to offer the thrills to the audience fails to impress the viewers. The second half is a big-time disappointment.

Impressive:

Performances
Stylish Making
Music & Score

Unimpressive:

Poorly done dubbing
Writing
Screenplay

‘The IBC News’ take on Beast:

Beast is one of the much-awaited films in recent times. However, it failed to reach the expectations. With Doctor, Nelson set a benchmark for himself, and unfortunately, he falls short by offering us a half-baked product on the screens. With Vijay in hand, Nelson could have done wonders with a stylish thriller but in the end, the film is just average and fails to entertain the audience.

One-Line Review:

Beast is Boring…
