Indian star shuttler PV Sindhu exited the Malaysia Open in the quarter-finals. The two-time Olympic medalist lost the quarterfinals of the women’s singles Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei. Second-seeded Tai Tzu Ying defeated seventh-seeded Sindhu with a score of 13-21 21-15 21-13.
With this win, the Chinese star now has an overall dominance of 16-5 in the head-to-head record with Sindhu. This is the sixth consecutive loss for Sindhu against Tai Tzu.
Sindhu made a slow start but soon charged into the match and won the first game. However, Tai Tzu came back quickly and won the next two games on a trot and sealed the match.
On the flip side, another ace shuttler HS Prannoy also made an exit in the quarterfinals of men’s singles. He lost to seventh-seeded Jonatan Christie of Indonesia by 18-21 and 16-21. The Indian challenge is now officially ended in the Super 750 event, after these two defeats.
Earlier, Saina Nehwal faced a first-round exit in the tournament. Even B Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa also failed to win the initial rounds.
